so according to first condition

x+y=3x+1

so y=2x+1 (1)

according to the second condition

x-1/y=1/3 (2)

so substitute value of y in (2)

we get

x-1/2x+1=1/3

so 3(x-1)=2x+1

so 3x-3=2x+1

ie x=4

substitute value of x in any of two equations

we get y=9

thus our assumed fraction=x/y

=4/9

hence required fraction is 4/9
