Solution:

Let the required fraction be \sf\dfrac{x}{y}.Then,

x + y = 12. --------(i)

And,\sf\dfrac{x}{y+3}=\sf\dfrac{1}{2}

2x-y = 3. -----(ii)

On adding 1 and 2 we get,

x = 5

On putting x = 5 in equation 1,we get,

y = 7

\thereforethe required fraction is \sf\dfrac{5}{7}.
