let the father's age be = x
the sons age be = y
sum of their ages = 55
x + y = 55 -------------1
twice of the age of the son = 2y
sum of the age of the father and the twice of the age of the son = 70
x + 2y = 70-----------2
sub eq 1 and 2
x + y = 55
x + 2y = 70
symbol change then x and -x will be cancelled
then
-y = -15
y = 15
age of father = x = 55 - y = 55 - 15 = 40
therefore age of father = 40
age of son = 15
