Answer:

Father-x

Son-y

x+y=50

Five yrs later,

x+5=3(y+5)

x=3y+15-5

x=3y+10

Substituting values in equation 1,

3y+10+y=50

4y=40

y=10

So,age of son is 10 and that of father is 40

Step-by-step explanation:

let the present age of father is x.and age of son is y

now, x+y=50....(1)

x+5=3(y+5)

x+5=3y+15

x-3y=15-5

x-3y=10...(2)

substract equation (2) from (1)

.'. x+y=50

- x-3y=10

4y=40

y=40/4

y = 10

x+y=50

x+10=50

x=50-10

x=40 years
