Solution :

Let the age of Raj be x years and Ben be y years .

A/Q ,

Raj's age + Ben's age = 37

x + y = 37

y = 37 - x _____(1)

Five years ago ,

• Raj's age = x-5 years
• Ben's age = y - 5 years

A/Q ,

Raj's age = 2 (Ben's age)

x - 5 = 2 ( y - 5 )

x - 5 = 2y -10

From equation 1 , y = 37 - x

x - 5 = 2 (37 - x) -10

x - 5 = 74 - 2x - 10

x + 2x = 74 - 10 + 5

3x = 69

x = $\dfrac{69}{3}$

x = 23

• Age of Raj = 23 years
• Age of Ben = 37 - 23 = 14 years
