Concept:

Rational numbers are thos numbers which can be expressed in the form of a/b where b is not equal to zero and futher a,b are integers. When a rational number is converted into decimal form then they are either terminating or repeating decimal. A real number which fails to be represented as rational number is known as irrational number. Examples of rational number is mentioned below.

\frac{2}{5},\frac{3}{7},\frac{100}{199}

Too find:

Find the sum of rational numbers  \frac{-5}{16} and  \frac{7}{12}.

Solution:

The given rational numbers are  \frac{-5}{16} and  \frac{7}{12}.

\frac{-5}{16}+\frac{7}{12} = \frac{(-5*3)+7*4}{48}

             =\frac{-15+28}{48}

             =\frac{13}{48}

Hence, the final rational number obtained is \frac{13}{48}.
