Hey there!!!
________
Let the numbers be x and(x+1)
ATQ
x^2+(x+1)^2=42
x^2+x^2+2x+1=42
2x^2+2x-41=0
Now you can solve this using splitting the middle term,completing the square or quadratic formula.

Hope this helps you

let one no.be=x
another no.is=x+1
x^2+(x+1)^2=42
x²+x²+1+2x=42
2x²+2x+1-42=0
2x²+2x-41=0
now we can do middle term spilliting,quadratic formula
