Hey there !!

Given :-

a₄ + a₈ = 24.

a₆ + a₁₀ = 44.

To find :-

→ a₁ and a₂ .

Solution :-

We have,

a₄ + a₈ = 24 .

a + 3d + a + 7d = 24.

⇒ 2a + 10d + 24.

⇒ 2( a + 5d ) = 24.

⇒ a + 5d = 12.......(1).

And,

a₆ + a₁₀ = 44.

a + 5d + a + 9d = 44 .

⇒ 2a + 14d = 44.

⇒ 2( a + 7d ) = 44.

⇒ a + 7d = 22..........(2).

On substracting equation (1) and (2) , we get

a + 5d = 12

a + 7d = 22.

-  -      -

___________

⇒ - 2d = - 10.

∴ d = 5.

Put the value of d in equation (1) , we get

⇒ a + 5 × 5 = 12.

⇒ a + 25 = 12.

⇒ a = 12 - 25 .

a₁ = - 13 .

⇒ a₂ = a₁ + d = -13 + 5 = -8.

Hence, first two terms of AP is -13 and -8 .
