a= -21/2

Explanation:

a+3d+a+7d=24

=> 2a+10d=24

=> a+5d=12 ....(1)

Now again

a+5d+a+9d=34

=> 2a+14d=34

=> a+7d=17. ....(2)

Now solve (1) and (2), to get a and d.

subtact (2) from (1)

we get , d= 9/2

and a = -21/2
