Answer:

Let the age of father be A and the age of child be B

Then A+B=60, So here comes another value for A

A=60-B

After 14 years

A+14=3(B+14)

A+14=3B+42

A-3B=42–14

A-3B=28

Now put second value of A

(60-B)-3B=28

60-B-3B=28

60–28=4B

32=4B

B=32/4

B=8

Now age of father will be 60–8=52

So the father is 52 years old.

OR

Step-by-step explanation:

Let X = the present age of the father and Y = the present age of the son.

X+Y=60 so X=60-Y

X+14=3*(Y+14)

so X=3*(Y+14)-14

so X=3Y+28

Also, X=60-Y

So

60-Y=3Y+28

32=4Y

8=Y

X= 60-Y = 60-8 and so X=52

The present age of the father is 52 years old.
