the sum of the age of fater and his son is 56 .and subtaraction is 54 then find the number

let the age of father be x and son be y

x + y = 56 ..... (1)
x - y = 54 ....... (2)

(1) + (2)

x + y + x - y = 56 + 54
2x = 110
x = 110/2
x = 55

sub x in (1)

x + y = 56
55 + y = 56
y = 56 - 55
y = 1

therefore the age of father is 55 years and son is 1 year
