Answer:

  • Present age of Father = 31 years

Explanation:

Let, present age of father is x

and, present age of son is y

then,

→ sum of ages = 40

→ x + y = 40

→ x = 40 - y   ___equation(1)

Now, After two years age of father will be x + 2

and age of son will be y + 2

then,

→ age of father after two years = 3 ( age of son 2 yrs later )

→ x + 2 = 3 ( y + 2 )

→ x + 2 = 3 y + 6

using equation (1)

→ ( 40 - y ) + 2 = 3 y + 6

→ 40 - y + 2 = 3 y + 6

→ 40 + 2 - 6 = 3 y + y

→ 42 - 6 = 4 y

→ 36 = 4 y

→ y = 36 / 4

y = 9

putting value of y in equation (1)

→ x = 40 - y

→ x = 40 - ( 9 )

x = 31

Therefore,

  • Present age of Son is 9 yrs and Present age of father is 31 years.
