Let the Father's Age be x.

Let the Son's Age be y.

ATQ,

Father's Age + Son's Age = 40

x + y = 40

x = 40 - y ....(i)

So,

∴ (x + 16) = 2(y + 16)

⇒ x + 16 = 2y + 32

⇒ x - 2y = 32 - 16

Putting Eq(1), we get

⇒ 40 - y - 2y = 16

⇒ 40 - 3y = 16

⇒ 40 - 16 = 3y

⇒ 24 = 3y

 \dfrac{24}{3}

=

⇒ 8 = y

Putting Eq (1), we get

⇒ x = 40 - 8

⇒ x = 32

Father's Age = 32 years

Son's Age = 8 years
