Answer age of son=10 year

age of father=40 year

Explanation:

let x and y be the age of son and father respt.

Then by question,

x+y=50

=>y=50-y.......1

and y+y+(y-x) =110

=>3y-x=110

=>y=(110+x)/3........2

Then from eqn. 1 and 2 we have

50-y =(110+x)/3

=>3(50-y)=110+x

=>150-3y=110+x

=>150-110=3x+x

=>40=4x

=>x=10

putting x=10in eqn. 1

we have y=40

thus age of father=40 and age of son =10

Answer:

Father's present age: 40 years

Son's present age: 10 years

Explanation:

Given: The sum of the ages of a father and his son is 50 years.

If they both live until the son becomes as old as the father is now, the sum of their ages will be 110 years .

Let f = father's age

Let s = son's age

Write an equation for each statement.

"The sum of the ages of a father and his son is 50 years.'

f + s = 50

s = (50-f)

If they both live until the son becomes as old as the father is now, the sum of their ages will be 110 years. "

f + f + (f-s) = 110

2f + (f-s) = 110

3f - s = 96

3f -(50-f) = 110

3f - 50 + f = 110

4f = 110 + 50

4f = 160

f = 160/4

f = 40 is father's age.

Then

50 - 40 = 10 yrs is son's age

Checking:

The difference in their ages 40 - 10 = 30;

40 + 30 + 10 + 30 = 110 years
