The sum of the ages of Peter and Paul is 24. Five years ago their respective ages were in the ratio 3:4. How old
will they be in three years’ time?

peter - x-5

Paul - 24-x-5 = 19-x

according to the question,

           \frac{x-5}{19-x} = \frac{3}{4}

          4x-20 = 57-3x

          7x = 77

          x = 11

the age of peter is 11 years and the age of Paul is 24 - 11 = 13 years.
