Answer:

the sum of ages of 2 brothers=24

age of elder bro= is x

age of younger brother = y

after three years

age of elder bro = x+3

age of youngerbrother = y+3 (x+y=24)year

elder brother twice = x+3×2

x+6

younger brother age =y+3

the present age of elder bro = x+6

the present age of younger brother = y+3

Let the age of elder brother and age of younger brother be x and y years.

Given that,

Sum of ages of two brothers is 24.

Therefore,

x + y = 24........ eq(1)

Again, it’s given that

After 3 years ago elder brother will be twice as old as younger brother.

After 3 years,

Age of younger brother = y + 3

Age of elder brother = 2 ( y + 3)

According to the question :-

⟼ x+3=2(y+3)

⟼ x+3=2y+6

⟼ x−2y=3.........eq(2)

From eq(1), we get

⟼ x = 24 - y

Now, put x = 24 - y in eq(2)

⟼ x−2y=3

⟼ 24 - y - 2y = 3

⟼ 24 - 3y = 3

⟼ -3y = 3 - 24

⟼ -3y = -21

⟼ y = 7

Substituting the value of y in eq(1), we get

⟼ x = 24 - y

⟼ x = 17

Hence,

Present age of elder brother is = 17 years

Present age of younger brother is = 7 years
