the sum of the digits of a 2-digit number is 8 . the number obtained by interchanging the digit exceeds the given number by 18 . find the given number

As per the question,

Such pairs whose sum is 8 are(0,8),(1,7),(2,6),(3,5), (4,4),(5,3),(6,2),(7,1),(8,0).

In such possible pairs only (3,5) fulfills our condition.

1)53-35=18.

So 35 is the number.

Let us consider that the digits are x and y.

Then, the number is = (10x + y)

When, digits are interchanged, the number becomes (10y+x).

Given that :

x + y = 8 .....(i)

and

10y + x = (10x + y) + 18

=> 9y = 9x + 18

=> y = x + 2

Now, putting y = x + 2 in (i), we get :

x + x + 2 = 8

=> 2x = 6

=> x = 3

Hence, y = 5.

Therefore, the required number is 35.
