Answer:

5    or  -6

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the required number is be x.

As given,  sum of the number and its square is 30.

⇒ x + x² = 30

⇒ x² + x - 30 = 0

         Splitting the middle term

⇒ x² + (6 -5)x - 30 = 0

⇒ x² + 6x - 5x - 30 = 0

⇒ x(x + 6) - 5(x + 6) = 0

⇒ (x + 6)(x - 5) = 0

⇒ x = -6      or    x = 5

Therefore the required no. is 5 or -6.

The Numbers are 5 (or), 6

From the Question, the Equation was :

x + x² = 30

⇒ x² + x - 30 = 0

by using, splitting middle term method

⇒ x² + (6-5)x - 30 = 0

⇒ x² + 6x - 5x - 30 = 0

⇒ x(x + 6) - 5(x + 6) = 0

⇒ (x+6) (x-5) = 0

x = 5 , -6
