Answer:

\frac{3}{7}

Step-by-step explanation:

Let numerator be x and denominator be y

Their sumis 10

x+y=10                                                                                              -(1)

If both are increased by 1 (x+1; y+1) their fraction =\frac{1}{2}

\frac{x+1}{y+1} = \frac{1}{2}

(x+1)2=(y+1)1

2x+2=y+1

2x-y=1-2

2x-y=-1                                                                                              -(2)

By elimination method

From equations (1) & (2)

               x+y=10

            + 2x-y=-1

               3x=9

                x=\frac{9}{3}

                x=3

By substituting the value of x in first equation

x+y=10

3+y=10

y=10-3

y=7

Hence, the original fraction is \frac{3}{7}\\

We can verify the answer

if we add 1 to both numerator and denominator

we get

\frac{3+1}{7+1} = \frac{4}{8} = \frac{1}{2}

Hope it helps
