Answer:

  • The required fraction is 4/7.

Given:

  • The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fration is 3 less than twice the denominator.

  • If the numerator and denominator are decreased by 1 the numerator becomes half the denominator.

To find:

  • The fraction.

Solution:

Let the numerator of the fraction be x and it's denominator be y.

According to the first condition.

=> x + y + 3 = 2y

=> x - y = -3...(1)

According to the second condition.

=> 2 (x - 1) = y - 1

=> 2x - 2 = y - 1

=> 2x - y = 1...(2)

Subtract equation (1) from equation (2), we get

2x - y = 1

-

x - y = -3

_________

=> x = 4

Substitute x = 4 in equation (1), we get

=> 4 - y = -3

=> y = 7

Fraction = x/y = 4/7

Therefore, the required fraction is 4/7.
