ANSWER:-

Given:

The sum of the numerator and the denominator of a given fraction is 12. If 3 is added to its denominator then the fraction becomes 1/2.

To find:

find the given fraction.

Solution:

Let the numerator be x &

Let the denominator be y.

According to the question:

x + y= 12............(1)

&

 =  >  \frac{x }{y + 3}  =  \frac{1}{2}  \\  \\  =  > 2x = y + 3.............(2)

Now,

From equation (1), we get;

=) x + y= 12

=) x= 12 -y.............(3)

Eliminate the value of x in equation (2), we get;

=) 2(12-y) = y +3

=) 24 -2y = y +3

=) -2y -y= 3-24

=) -3y = -21

=) y= -21/-3

=) y= 7

Putting the value of y in equation (3), we get;

=) x= 12 - 7

=) x= 5

Thus,

Fraction is 5/7.

Hope it helps ☺️
