then,

x+y=12 first equation

x/(y+3)=1/2 second equation

y=12-x [from first equation]

putting value of y in second equation

we get,

x/(12-x+3)=1/2

2x=15-x

3x=15

x=5

y=7 [from first equation]

so,

the fraction is 5/7
