Answer:- The son's age now is = 15 years
Given in the question that:-
The sum of the present ages of a father and a son is given in the question = 70 years
Five years ago father's age was 5 times of the age of the son.
Solution is as follows:-
Let us assume that the father's present age is = y years and
Son's present age = x years
According to question,
x+y = 70 eq(1)
5 years ago,
Father's age was = y-5 years and
Son's age was = x-5 years
It is also said that 5 years ago,
Father's age was = 5 times the son's age
i.e., y-5 = 5(x-5)
y-5 = 5x-25
y-5x = -25+5
-(5x-y) = -20
5x-y = 20 (the minus in both sides will get cancelled) eq(2)
Now, by adding both the equations i.e., equation (1) and equation (2), we get
6x = 90
x = 90/6
x = 15
Therefore,
The present age of the son is = x years
= 15 years
If you want to find father's age also then simply subtract age of son from 70
Putting the value of x = 15 in the equation (1)
x+y = 70
15+y = 70
y = 70-15
y = 55
Therefore, the father's present age is = y years
= 55 years
