Father's present age = a

son's present age = b

a + b  = 110

a = 110 - b  .........(1)

10 years back

(a - 10) (b - 10) = 1856

(110 - b - 10) (b-10) = 1856

(100 - b) (b - 10) = 1856

100b - b² - 1000 + 10b = 1856

b² - 110b + 2856 = 0

b² - 48b - 62b + 2856 = 0

b(b - 48) - 62(b - 48) = 0

(b - 62) (b - 48) = 0

Their ages = 62, 48
