Let the son be x years old

The father is 65 -x years old

10 years ago:

Son = x  - 10

father = 65 - x - 10 = 55 - x

10 years ago, their ratio was 7 : 2

2(55 - x) = 7 ( x - 10)

110 - 2x = 7x - 70

9x = 180

x = 20

Find their present age:

Son = x = 20 years old

Father = 65 - x = 65 - 20 = 45 years old

Find their age 10 years later:

Son = 20 + 10 = 30 years old

Father = 45 + 10 = 55 years old

Find their ratio:

Father : Son = 55 : 30

Simplify:

Father : Son = 11 : 6

Answer: The ratio is 11 :6
