After 10 years, son's age will be 48 and fathers age will be 72

Step-by-step explanation:

lets consider son's present age as "x" and father's age as "y".

so, x + y = 100 --------> "1"

2(x-5) = 1(x-5), (from given information)

=> 2x - 10 = y - 5,

=> 2x-10-5=y,

=> y=2x-15. -------> "2"

substituting "2" in "1" gives,

x + (2x - 15) = 100 or,

x + 2x -15 = 100.

=> 3x = 100 + 15

=> x = 115/3

=> x = 38.33

subs "x" in "1" gives,

38.33 + y = 100

=> y = 61.67.

thus after 10 years,

x = 38.33 + 10 = 48.33. approximately "48"

y = 61.67 + 10 = 71.67. approximately "72".
