Let the numbers be x and y.

Given

Sum of the numbers = 11

=> x + y = 11

Difference of the numbers = 3

=> x - y = 3, x>y

Solving, we get,

x+y=11\\\underline{x-y=3}\\\underline{\underline{2x=14}}

\implies x = 7\\y = 4

\boxed{\boxed{\bold{Therefore, \ the \ value \ of \ xy = 4 * 7 = 28}}}}}

\Large{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{Question}}}}}

the sum of the real numbers are x and y is 11. their difference is 3. What is the value of xy ?

\Large{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{Solution}}}}}

\Large{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{\pink{Given}}}}}

  • X + y = 11 .........(1)
  • x - y = 3 ...........(2)

\Large{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{\pink{Find}}}}}

  • Value of xy

\Large{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{Explanation}}}}}

Add equation (1) and equation (2)

\mapsto\sf{\:2x\:=\:14} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\:x\:=\:\cancel{\dfrac{14}{2}}} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\red{\:x\:=\:7}}

keep value of x in equ(1)

\mapsto\sf{\:7+y\:=\:11} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\:y\:=\:11-7} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\red{\:y\:=\:4}}

\Large{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{\bf{Thus}}}}}

  • Value of x = 7
  • Value of y = 4

Now,calculate

\mapsto\sf{\orange{\:x.y}} \\ \\ \\ \small\sf{\:\:\:\:keep\:value\:of\:x\:and\:y} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\:7\times4} \\ \\ \\ \mapsto\sf{\blue{\:28\:\:\:\:\:Ans}}
