  • The sum of the reciprocals of Rahul’s ages 3 years ago and 5 years from now is 1/3.

To Find :

  • Present Age of Rahul .

Solution :

After 5 years :

\longmapsto\tt{\dfrac{(x+5)+(x-3)}{(x-3)\:(x+5)}=\dfrac{1}{3}}

\longmapsto\tt{\dfrac{2x+2}{(x-3)\:(x+5)}=\dfrac{1}{3}}

\longmapsto\tt{3(2x+2)=(x-3)\:(x+5)}

\longmapsto\tt{6x+6={x}^{2}+5x-3x-15}

\longmapsto\tt{6x+6={x}^{2}+2x-15}

\longmapsto\tt{0={x}^{2}+2x-15-6x-6}

By Splitting Middle Term :

Age can't be negative . So , The Present Age of Rahul is 7 years .
