we know that,

  • the sum of the roots of the equation is,

 { \alpha}^{2}  +  {  \beta }^{2}  =  \frac{ - b}{a}

Now,

-b=-6

a=1

  { \alpha}^{2}  +  { \beta}^{2}  =  \frac{ - ( - 6)}{1}

{ \alpha}^{2}  +  { \beta}^{2} = 6
