The sum of three numbers is 68 if the ratio between the first and second is 2:3 and between the second and third is 5:3. What is the second number?

Data structure is the most important topic for college placement.

X+Y+Z=68…equation 1

GIVEN

X/Y=2/3

Y/Z=5/3

solving

X=2Y/3

Z=3Y/5

Putting value in equation 1 and solving

2Y/3+Y+3Y/5=68

Solving after taking L.C.M(15) we get Y=30

Let three numbers be x,y,z.

According to first condition,

x+y+z=68—(1)

According to second condition,

x : y=2 : 3

i.e. x/y=2/3

3x=2y

x=2y/3

According to second condition,

y : z=5 : 3

i.e. y/z=5/3

3y=5z

z=3y/5

Put values of x and z in (1)

2y/3+y+3y/5=68

(10y+15y+9y)/15=68

34y=68*15

34y=1020

y=30

Therefore,the second number is 30
