The sum of the two numbers is 9, 8 times the smaller number is 2more than 6 times

let two numbers are a and b.

From Q, a+b=9

and, 8a = 6b+2

or, 8a =2(3b+1)

Or, 4a =3b +1

or, 4(9-b) = 3b-1

or, 36-4b-3b=-1

or, -7b = -37

or, b=37/7

= 5.2

Now, a =9-b

= 9-5.2

= 3.8

Thus two numbers are 3.8 and 5.2
