HELLO DEAR,

YOUR QUESTIONS IS-------------->The sum of the weights of a father and a son is 85 kg. The weight of the son is (1/4) of the weight of his father.Obtain a pair of linear equation in two variables from the given information

let the weight of father be x kg
and son's be y kg.

according to questions,

x + y = 85--------( 2 )

and,

y = (1/4)x

4y = x

x - 4y = 0--------( 2 )

hence, the required equation are given

I HOPE ITS HELP YOU DEAR,
THANKS

Let the weight of the father be F and the weight of the son be S.

According to the question, F + S = 85 ------(i). (the linear equation in two variables)

Also it is mentioned that father is 4 times heavier than his son.

i.e. S = F/4

or, S - F/4 = 0 ------------(ii)

Therefore,

father's weight will be 4S.

Thus, 4S + S = 85.

or, 5S = 85.

or, D = 17.

Therefore, F = 85 - 17 = 68.

Weight of father is 68 kg and weight of son is 17 kg.
