Given:

The sum of three consecutive even natural numbers, after multiplying with 2, 3 and 4, respectively is 148

To find:

The greatest number

Solution:

Let the consecutive even numbers are 2x-2, 2x, and 2x+2

So as per the condition of the question the numbers are to be multiplied with 2, 3 and 4 so we get the numbers as

2(2x-2) = 4x-4

3(2x) = 6x

4(2x+2) = 8x+8

As per the condition of the question:

  • 4x-4 + 6x + 8x+8 = 148
  • 18x = 148-4
  • 18x = 144
  • x = 8

The greatest even number is given by: 2x+2

  • 2×8+2
  • 16+2
  • 18

The greatest even number will be 18
