Let the three consecutive multiples if three be 3x, 3 (x+1) and 3 (x+2), i.e., 3x + 3 and 3x + 6.

Given,

3x + 3 (x + 1) + 3 (x + 2) = 72

= > 3x + 3x + 3 + 3x + 6 = 72

= > 9x + 9 = 72

= > 9x = 63

= > x = 7

Therefore, largest multiple of 3 = 3 (x + 2)

= 3 (7 + 2)

= 3 × 9

= 27.
