Answer :–

The three consecutive numbers are :–

  • 1st number = 4
  • 2nd number = 5
  • 3rd number = 6

Given :–

  • The sum of three consecutive number is 15.

To Find :–

  • Three consecutive numbers are ?

Solution :–

Let, the fist number be x.

The second number be x + 1.

The third number be x + 2.

So,

According to the question,

⟹ 1st number + 2nd number + 3rd number = 15

So,

⟹ x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) = 15

⟹ x + x + x + 1 + 2 = 15

⟹ 3x + 3 = 15

⟹ 3x = 15 – 3

⟹ 3x = 12

⟹ x =  \dfrac{12}{3}

Cut the denominator (3) and the numerator (12) by 3, we obtain

⟹ x = 4

  • x = 4

Now, we need to find the three consecutive numbers,

Here,

  • 1st number = x = 4
  • 2nd number = x + 1 = 4 + 1 = 5
  • 3rd number = x + 2 = 4 + 2 = 6

Check :–

Given that, the sum of the three consecutive numbers is 15.

So,

⟹ 1st number + 2nd number + 3rd number = 15

We find all the three consecutive numbers which are :–

  1. 1st number = 4
  2. 2nd number = 5
  3. 3rd number = 6

Now, put all the values,

⟹ 4 + 5 + 6 = 15

⟹ 9 + 6 = 15

⟹ 15 = 15

• L.H.S. = R.H.S.

So, here the L.H.S. is equal to the R.H.S.

Hence, all the three consecutive numbers (4, 5 ,6) are correct.
