GIVEN:

Sum of three consecutive odd numbers = 129

Let the numbers be x, x + 2 and x + 4

According to the problem,

x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 129

3x + 6 = 129

3x = 129 - 6

3x = 123

=> x = 123/3

=> x = 41

One number = x = 41

Second number = x + 2 = 43

Third number = x + 4 = 45

Therefore, the numbers are 41, 43 and 45.

Answer :-

The three consecutive odd numbers which sums to 129 are 41, 43 and 45.

Solution :-

Let the three consecutive odd numbers be (x + 1), (x + 3), (x + 5)

Sum of three consecutive odd numbers = 129

⇒ (x + 1) + (x + 3) + (x + 5) = 129

⇒ x + 1 + x + 3 + x + 5 = 129

Adding like terms

⇒ 3x + 9 = 129

Transpose 9 to RHS

⇒ 3x = 129 - 9

⇒ 3x = 120

Transpose 3 to RHS

⇒ x = 120/3

⇒ x = 40

One consecutive odd number = (x + 1) = (40 + 1) = 41

Second consecutive odd number = (x + 3) = (40 + 3) = 43

Third consecutive odd number = (x + 5) = (40 + 5) = 45

Therefore the three consecutive odd numbers which sums to 129 are 41, 43 and 45.

Verification :-

(x + 1) + (x + 3) + (x + 5) = 129

⇒ 41 + 43 + 45 = 129

⇒ 84 + 45 = 129

⇒ 129 = 129
