Concept

We will write the factors of 40 and try to find the prime numbers in the factor. After that we will analyse which is the biggest prime number and then subtract it to find the answer.

Given

The sum of three prime numbers is 40.

Find

We have to calculate the difference of the two biggest prime numbers in the given three sum of the numbers.

Solution

Since the factors of 40 is written as,

40=5*2*2*2

Or we can try different combinations possible which when added give 40.

40=39+1

40=37+2+1

40=31+7+2

Hence we got the possible combination of three different prime numbers which added to give 40.

The numbers are 31, 7 and 2.

The bigger of them are 31 and 7.Therefore difference is 31-7=24

Hence the difference of the two bigger numbers is 24. Therefore option D is the correct option.
