Let three numbers be ' a ' , ' b ' and ' c '.

It is given that,

  • The sum of three number is 98.
  • Ratio of 1st no. to the 2nd is 2 : 3
  • Ratio of the 2nd no. to the 3rd no. is 5 : 8

It means,

a : b =2 × 5 : 3 × 5

⇒ a : b = 10 : 15

b : c = 5 × 3 : 8 × 3

⇒ b : c = 15 : 24

Now,

The ratio between A : B : C :-

A : B : C = 10 : 15 : 24

Let the common factor in their ratios be ' x '.

Now,

10x + 15x + 24x = 98   ( sum of the tree numbers is 98 )

⇒ 49x = 98

⇒ x = 98/49

∴ x = 2

Hence,

Three numbers are -

  • a = 10x ; 10 × 2 = 20
  • b = 15x = 15 × 2 = 30
  • c = 24x = 24 × 2 = 48

Therefore,

The second number is 30.
