Answer: Option - A [ 42 ]

EXPLANATION:

GIVEN:

Sum of three numbers = 252

First number is thrice the second and third number is two-third of the first.

TO FIND:

The second number.

SOLUTION:

Let the second number be x

First number be '3x'

Third number = 2/3.3x= 2x

According to the problem,

==> x + 3x + 2x = 252

==> 6x = 252

==> x = 252/6

==> x = 42

Therefore, the second number is 42.

Given :-

  • Sum of 3 numbers = 252
  • First number = thrice the second & third number = two-third of the first.

To find :-

  • Second number

Solution :-

Let the three numbers be m, n & p respectively.

Case 1 :

⇒ m + n + p = 252 ----- eq.(i)

Case 2 :

m = 3n

⇒ p = ⅔ of m

⇒ p = 2m/3

⇒ p = 2(3n)/3

p = 2n

Putting both values in eq.(i)

⇒ 3n + n + 2n = 252

⇒ 6n = 252

⇒ n = 252/6

⇒ n = 42

Therefore,

First number = m = 3n = 3(42) = 126

Second number = n = 42

Third number = p = 2n = 2(42) = 84

Hence, Your required number = A)42
