       Let the two consecutive odd numbers are $x$ and $x+2$ respectively.

       According to the question,

       $\Rightarrow x+x+2=172\\ \Rightarrow 2x+2=172\\ \Rightarrow 2x=172-2\\\Rightarrow 2x=170$

       $\Rightarrow x=\frac{170}{2}$

       $\Rightarrow x=85.$  

       So, the second consecutive number is,

        $\Rightarrow x+2=85+2\Rightarrow x=87.$

        So, the consecutive odd numbers are $85$ and $87$ respectively.
