let the larger number be x
x+x-1=87
2x=88
x=44

Here you go..

Let the 2 number be x and x+1..
Therefore the eq will be
X+x+1 = 87;
2x+1 =87;
2x = 86;
X = 43..

Therefore the 2 consecutive numbers are
X = 43 & x+1 = 44..

So the larger number is 44..
