Answer:

Let the smaller odd number be x ,then the next consecutive odd number will be x+2

(Consecutive odd numbers differ by 2)

Then according to the question,

x+x+2=56

2x=56−2=54

x=27

x+2=29

The numbers are 27 and 2

To find : odd numbers .

Given : The sum of two consecutive odd numbers is 56 .

Solution :

  • As per given data we know that the sum of two consecutive odd numbers is 56 .
  • We know that odd numbers differ by 2 .
  • Let , x be the smaller odd number and x +2 be the larger odd number.
  • According to given condition we write as , x + x +2 = 56 .
  • Using transposition we find the value of x , by transposing constants at RHS and leaving variables at LHS .
  • x + x +2 = 56

       2x = 56 -2  \\2x = 54 \\x = 27

  • Now , numbers are :

      Smaller odd number = x = 27

      larger odd number = x + 2 = 27 + 2 = 29

Hence , odd numbers are 27 and 29 .
