Correct question :

1) The sum of two integers is 65. If one of them is -31, find the other.

2) The difference of an integer a and (-6) is 4. Find the value of a.

Solution :

1) Given,

sum of two integers is 65

one number = -31

other number = x

∴ -31 + x = 65

x = 65 + 31

x = 96

other number is 96

2) given ,

difference between a and -6 is 4

a - (-6) = 4

a + 6 = 4

a = 4 - 6

a = -2

value of a is -2

Given :-

  • sum of two integers = 65
  • One of then is - 31

To find

  • Other number

Let x and y be the number.

  • ∴ x = - 31 , y = ?
  • So, according to the question,

 \implies \: x + y = 65

\implies( - 31) + y = 65

 \implies \: y = 65 + 31

 \color{green}{ \boxed{ \implies \: y = 96}}

So another number is 96.

By assuming Closure property of Subtraction [a-b=c],

Let, a = a, b=-6, c=4

 \implies a – (-6) = 4

 \implies a + 6 = 4

 \implies a = 4-6

 \color{green}{ \boxed{ \implies \: a = -2}}

Value of a is -2.
