a + b = 26 (equation 1)

difference is 8

a - b = 8. (equation 2)

2a = 34

a = 17

17 +b = 26

b = 9

Ans - 17 and 9 option C is correct answer.

Answer:  9 and 17

9 and 17

let the numbers be x and y

x + y = 26

x - y = 8

x + y = 26

x = 26 - y    --------(1)

x - y = 8

26 - y - y = 8   ----------- substituting by (1)

26 - 2y = 8

-2y = 8 - 26

-2y = -18

y = 18/2

y = 9    ---------------------- (2)

x - y = 8

x - 9 = 8  --------------------------- substituting by (2)

x = 9 + 8

x = 17

so the numbers are 9 and 17
