According to second condition,

x - 16 = y ........(2)

Substitute x + y = 64 in (2)

x - x - 16 = 64

x = 64 + 16

x = 80

Step (3)

Substitute x = 80 in (1)

x + y = 64

80 + y = 64

y = 64 - 80

y = - 16

Verification :-

Substitute x value and y value that we find.

80 - 16 = 64

64 = 64

Here R.H.S = L.H.S

Hence, x = 80 and y = - 16 is the answer.
