Answer:

4 and 7

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the first unknown number.

We have,

  • The sum = 11
  • The first number = x
  • The second number = x + 3

Finding x :

(x+3) + x = 11

⇒x + 3 + x = 11

⇒2x + 3 = 11

⇒2x = 11 - 3

⇒x = 8/2

⇒x = 4

.°. x = 4

Finding the numbers :

  • The first number = x = 4
  • The second number = x + 3 = 4 + 3 = 7

Hence, the numbers are 4 and 7.

Quick Check :

x + (x+3) = 11

→ 4 + 4 + 3 = 11

→ 8 + 3 = 11

→ 11 = 11

Thus, 4 and 7 are the two numbers.

S O L U T I O N :

Given :

The sum of two numbers is 11 & the second number is 3 greater than the other.

Explanation :

Let the two numbers be x & y respectively .

According to the question :

➠ x + y = 11...........(1)

&

➠ y = x + 3...........(2)

Therefore, putting the value of y in equation (1), we get;

➠ x + x + 3 = 11

➠ 2x + 3 = 11

➠ 2x = 11 - 3

➠ 2x = 8

➠ x = 8/2

x = 4

Putting the value of x in equation (2), we get;

➠ y = 4 + 3

y = 7

Thus,

The two numbers will be x = 4 & y = 7 .
