X + Y = 25............... (1)

X - Y = 9

X = 9 + Y................. (2)

Putting this value on eqn. (1)

X + Y = 25

9 + Y + Y = 25

2Y = 25-9

2 Y = 16

Y = 16/2

Y = 8

Putting this value of Y on eqn. (2)

X = 9 + Y

X = 9 + 8

X = 17

So the numbers are 17 & 8.
