Answer:

x+y=25

if one exceeds the other by 9means we have to add +9 to any of x or y ....or else if they ask deceids then we have to do subtraction

now x+9x=25

10x=25

x=25/10

x=5/2 now we have to substitute x in first equation

5/2+y=25

y=25-5/2

y=45/2

x=5/2. and. y=45/2

Answer:

  • The numbers are 8 and 17.

Given:

  • Sum of two numbers is 25.
  • One number exceeds the other by 9.

To Find:

  • Value of numbers = ??

Process:

To find the numbers we will let the numbers be x and (x + 9). Then, we can form a equation as follows : x + (x + 9) = 25 as it is given that the sum of the numbers is 25. Then we can solve further to get the value of x. After that, we can substitute the value of x to x and (x + 9) to get the values of the numbers.

Solution:

Let the first number be x.

Then, second number = (x + 9)

Therefore, A/q

x + (x + 9) = 25

Removing the brackets, we get:

x + x + 9 = 25

Transposing 9 from LHS to RHS and changing it's sign, we get:

x + x = 25 - 9

Subtracting 9 from 25, we get:

2x = 16

Transposing 2 from LHS to RHS and changing it's sign, we get:

\sf{x = \dfrac{16}{2}}

Dividing 16 by 8, we get:

x = 8

Hence, first number = x = 8

And second number = (x + 9) = (8 + 9) = 17
