So,

a/c. to question

=> x + y = 405 ...............(1)

Again,

=> x :y = 8:7

=> x/y = 8/7

=> 7x - 8y = 0........... ...(2)

Multiply by 7 in (1) ,

=> 7x +7 y = 2835 ..........(3)

And,

=> 7x - 8y = 0 /./...............(4)

[ Subtract (4) - (3) ]

=> 15y = 2835

=> y = 2835/15

=>y = 567/3

=>y = 189

Keep value of y in (1) ,

=> x + 189 = 405

=> x = 405 -189

=> X = 216
