The sum of the two numbers x and y is 50.

→ The first equation is x + y = 50

The difference is 16.

→ The second equation is |x - y| = 16 (The bigger number is not known.)

→ And this gives x - y = 16 or x - y = -16.

x + y = 50, x - y = 16

→ x = 33, y = 17

x + y = 50, x - y = -16

→ x = 17, y = 33

The two numbers are 33 and 17.

Answer:

Let the two no. are = x and y.

Now,A.T.Q. =======

x+y = 50 _____ 1)

x-y = 16 _____ 2)

From eq. 2) , we get ====

x = y+16

Substitute the value of x in eq. 1) , we get======

y+16+y = 50

2y+16 = 50

2y = 34

y = 17.

Now, x = 17+16

x = 33.
